A Handfasting Ritual

A Handfasting Ritual Cover
A Handfasting is an old Celtic term used to denote a wedding ritual. If performed by a recognized clergy, Handfastings represent a binding contract and are legal. However, they can also be performed by a High Priestess or High Priest of a coven, even though they may not have obtained a legal clergy status. These weddings may or may not be considered legal when you take into account "common-law" status etc... and you will have to check the laws in your area for more information about this subject.

However, a High Priest or High Priestess is not required to officiate a Handfasting. If the couple does not desire a legally binding wedding, they may perform a ritual themselves where they make their vows to each other before Nature and/or the Gods.

Unlike weddings in other religions, a Wiccan Handfasting is thought to last only as long as the two participants wish to remain wed. The couple may or may not indicate prior to the actual Handfasting how long they intend their marriage to last. It may be for a year and a day, it may be so long as their love shall last, for their lifetime, and even beyond.

Most couples enjoy writing their rituals themselves, or along with their High Priest/ess.

A Handfasting Ceremony

with an officiant

An altar is erected bearing a wedding cake flanked on either side by large pillar candles. Before the cake are arranged the athame, a red cord, and a cup of white wine. In addition there may be red roses strewn about the altar.

The HP stands with his or her back to the altar and music is played to indicate the beginning of the ceremony.

HP: As marriage is a journey taken together let the bride and groom come to us together in perfect love and perfect trust of their own free will and mind.
The couple move among their loved ones and enter the sacred space together.

The HP lights the candles on the altar and invokes the presence of the God and Godddess to bear witness in the joining of the two lovers.

HP (Lighting Candles): Lord and Lady, as we come together here today to join these two souls as one, we ask that you be with us and move among us. Bless (Groom) and (Bride), their love, and their joining for as long as they both shall live. So Mote it Be.

The wedding guest then form a circle of brooms around the altar and the couple, then take their seats again.

HP (addressing the crowd): The circle is complete and we are between the worlds. Here the realm of spirit meets the world of men and become one. In like fashion, we have gathered here today before the ancient gods and our loved ones to unite this man and this woman in holy matrimony. For love is more than the joining of flesh to flesh or a meeting of the minds, it is a powerful connect felt deep down within our very souls.

PAUSE to allow everyone to reflect on what has been said.

Who is the groom?

The guests states the grooms name in unison.

Who is the bride?

The guests states the brides name in unison.

HP (addressing the couple): Do you (N) and (N) join us here today of your own free will and mind to acknowlege the bond shared by you both?

If the answer is yes, then the HP directs the couple to face one another and join hands, followed by the recital of their vows to one another. If desired, they may exchange rings as their vows are recited. When they are done, the HP binds the couple's left hands together with a red cord and says:

Here before our Lord and Lady, and these witnesses, (N) and (N) have sworn their eternal vows to one another. With this cord, I hereby bind them to those vows. So Mote it be.

Everyone: So Mote It Be.

The HP directs the couple to cut the cake using only their right hands. They then each feed a piece of the cake to one another, and then each take a sip of white wine from the cup. This is a task that they must accomplish by working together.

HP: (N) and (N) as you partake of this food and drink, consider the sacrifice made by the wheat that became the flour in your cake, and of the grapes that became the wine in your cup; when you face adversity, do not dwell on the sacrifices you have made for love but remember that strength comes from adversity. Just as you care for each others needs here today may you be ever mindful that for a marriage to work you must work together. So Mote it Be.

Everyone: So Mote it Be!

Finally, the couple turns and jumps over the brooms out of the circle and into the arms of their family and friends who shower them with blessings. All in attendance make merry and join in partaking of food and drink.

Hekate Thou Mother Of Might

Hekate Thou Mother Of Might Cover
"Hecate, thou mother of might
Goddess of magick, of storms, of night.
Moon maiden, mother and crone
Dispensing justice from they lofty throne

Watching now with piercing eye
As thy moon palace doth glide the sky
All of life on the planet Earth
Selecting, weighing and measuring it's worth

Grant us of thy wisdom sublime
Reveal to us the secrets of time
Help us winnow truth from lies
Harken now, please hear out cries

Hekate, thou mother of might
Goddess of crossroads, bearer of light
Moon maiden, mother and crone
Descend unto us from they lofty throne

Walk amongst us and reveal now
The mysteries of thy shining brow
Past, present and future merge
Let us feel thy power surge

Bestow healing upon this planet
Release the songs of thy stones of granite
Help us, strengthen us, in our resolve
To banish all hate, let it dissolve

Hekate, thou mother of might
Goddess of love, giver of sight
Moon maiden, mother and crone
Ensconced upon thy lofty throne
Acknowledge us, who by our own choice
Have chosen to listen to thy voice
Help us spread wisdom, truth, love and light
To save Earth from her desperate plight

We bide the Wiccan Reed to fulfill
"And ye harm none, do what thou will…"
Help us grow in serving thee
As we will, so mote it be.

Hekate, thou mother of might
Robed in splendor, beauteous, bright
Moon maiden, mother and crone
Shine upon us from thy lofty throne."

Consecration Ritual

Consecration Ritual Cover
Tools Needed:

3 candles
Gold or black for the God
Silver or white for the Goddess
One red candle for the element of Fire
Incense, any type will do. Nothing over bearing.
The object that you wish to consecration, sanctify, and purify.
Water and Salt
Oil for anointing the object

First ground and center yourself. Begin to breathe deeply and slowly, removing yourself from the mundane world. Close your eyes and allow the magick of the Lord and Lady to surround you with Love and Light.

Repeat 3 times: In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

When you feel that your consciousness is on the highest spiritual level, open your eyes and light the two candles signifying the presence of the Lord and Lady.

Then light an incense and red candle to assist in the consecration. Take a pinch of salt and mix it with the water repeating:

I exorcise O ye elements of salt and water, removing all negative and disharmonious energies. I now bless thee in the name of the God and Goddess to assist me in this purification.

Now, take the object in one hand. Dip your finger in the mixture of salt and water, then place a few drops of this mixture on the object repeating:

I now purify this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess casting out any negative or disharmonious energies sending them into the ethers. I purify thee clean and sacred!

Now, move the object first over the Fire candle, then the burning incense, repeating:

I now sanctify this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess casting out any negative or disharmonious energies sending them into the ethers.

Lastly, anoint the object with the oil, repeating:

I consecrate this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess to be used only as a magickal tool. Let this object forever and a day, give Love and Light to my path.

Once again close your eyes and take a deep breath allowing the spiritual world to begin to leave. Thank the Lord and Lady for their presence in your life. Open your eyes and return to the mundane world. It is your choice to leave or extinguish the candle's flame and the burning incense. But never, never blow them out, use a candle snuffer or simply pinch the flame out! Always show love and respect!

Invocation To Athena

Invocation To Athena Cover
Athena, also known as Minerva in Roman mythology, is the goddess of Military Strategy, Wisdom, and Crafts. Athena was born from Zeus and Metis, although that is a story in and of itself. Quite imprudently, Zeus sired a child with Metis, only realizing later that if that child was a son, he would be more powerful than him. In an attempt to stop that, Zeus ate the pregnant Metis, the Goddess of Prudence. Somehow, Metis survived being eaten and went into Zeus' head, giving birth to Athena while having enough time for her to grow while she made her a complete set of armor and weapons(yes, apparently there's a smithy up in Zeus' noggin). As Athena grew, Zeus experienced severe headaches until he had Hephaestus, God of Smithing, open up his head, whereby Athena popped out, fully dressed, ready for war, and presumably covered in brain juices. Other stories say that her father was Pallas(who later tried to rape her and got killed as a result), others say that she was the daughter of Poseidon, but that she begged to be adopted by Zeus. Most stories say that Athena doesn't have a real mother.

Invocation to Athena:

Athena, strong and beautiful - Ancient Warrior,
come enwrapped in your winged power.
Call upon your heartsong to open the skies.
Spread rainbow light across sea cliffs.
Cloaked in power, raise the sun,
piercing the gray mist at dawn.
Athena, oh great one! who defies time and challenges the form.
Free the words in our story and hold the ideal as our voice.
With the courage of a sacred warrior,
offer our hearts as a painted vessel to the heavens.

Invocation To Hecate

Invocation To Hecate Cover
Goddess of the cross-roads,
Goddess of Manic-Depression,
Dweller in the deep places of the earth and mind,
Traveller in the land between worlds!
Torch-bearer! Protectress of the very old and the very young;
Protectress of those used and abused;
Healer of those who are torn apart;
She will be there for us when we call on her and at the end.
Grandmother to lost children and to the downtrodden.
Nurse to the suckling infant,
Comfort to the lone man or woman in the darkest night.
She who seeks vengeance for her children who are wronged!
Wanderer and prowler!
Sorceress who lives at the edge of the mind.
Drawer-up of the secret compost from the unused internal well.
She who has no relatives on the earth save for her children.
Without Mother or Sister.
Lady on the brink, both bi-polar and uni-polar!
They call her mad, and it is she who terrifies the disbeliever and the unworthy!
Bringer of nightmares!
But she it is who sooths the sleepless and disheveled spirit.
Mother of night!
Dark Power of the moon!
Keeper of the shadow!
Walker of the endless highways!
She unites those who follow her as her children; the Hekite.
Bearer of the sacred poppy.
Shape-shifter, Transformer.
Keeper of the hounds of Hel and the three-headed dog Cerebus!
She walks abroad in the hour of the wolf and under the Dark Moon!
Hear my call O Lady and cover us with your starry cloak.
Let the unborn moon seed in my heart this night.
And let her growing light shine upon our intention;
That she be at our full deliverance,
So Mote it be!

Invocation Of Being

Invocation Of Being Cover
Long have we wandered and been apart from her shores.
Long have we flown on unseeing wings.

The eagle soars high on boundless feeling.
Long have we felt groundless without root, or presence.
Long have we been valiant in the name of love.
Long have we allowed nameless fears to limit our possibilities.
The forest continues it's endless cycle of the ages.
Long have we felt alone in expectant solitude.
Long have we danced our own lives to the dream of wisdom
to the unbearable void of ourselves
The tide washes evenly on deserted shores.
Forever we are one.
Forever we ignite our being in the elemental fire of our spirit.
The golden age dweller.
The playful sprite.
The hooded wanderer.
The tortured seeker.
The power of being is ours to hold.
The beauty of now is here for the taking.
Forever and tonight,
we bathe in the majesty of wonder.

Invocation To Demeter

Invocation To Demeter Cover
Demeter, or Ceres (Roman Cognate), is the Goddess of Agriculture and harvest. She is also known as the bringer of seasons and together with her daughter Persephone, is a central figure of the Eleusinian Mysteries. She is also associated with presiding over grains, the fertility of the earth, law and order, afterlife and constellations. Demeter is one of the 5 children that Cronus swallowed in his attempt to protect himself from being overthrown by one of his children, but with their mother, and Cronus' sister and wife, Rhea, protecting Zeus, Cronus was eventually forced to spit his children back out and he was eventually overthrown by Zeus and Cronus's five other children, Hera, Hestia, Hades, Poseidon and Demeter. Demeter had a 9 children from different fathers. Persephone and Zargreus are children of Zeus. Desponia and Arion are from Poseidon. Plutus and Philomelus are sons of the mortal Iason. Eubuleus and Khyrsothemis are children of Karmanor while Amphiteus is the son of Tripolemus.

Invocation To Demeter:

Demeter, Lady of fruits and grains,
Of ripening suns and harvest rains,
I call to you, Mother, to hear my plea--
Bestow Your blessings here on me.
Goddess, who searches in places wild,
To bring home safely Her stolen child,
Who changes the summer's greens to gold,
And causes the cycle of life to unfold,
Beautiful Lady, whose love runs deep,
Who banishes growth during Winter's sleep,
And causes the seeds to stir in Spring,
Attend my circle and blessings bring!

Invocation Of The Goddess

Invocation Of The Goddess Cover
(High Priest)

"Come to us Moist Mother Earth. Come to us and take your ease. You have labored long and hard to bring forth your bounty, so that we your children may survive. Come and relax, for well have you earned your rest. Eat and drink your fill, sing, dance, and be merry, for you have done well, and there is plenty for all. And, if it pleases you to ask for the favors of one of us as well, may you find satisfaction there too. We shout your praises, for you are the essence of fulfillment, love, and joy. You are the most beautiful, and beyond measure is your grandeur and greatness. May we never forget that we are a part of your Sacred Body, and may we work to preserve it in all of its myriad forms. Invocation To Lady Artemis

Invocation To Lady Artemis Cover
In Roman Mythology, she is known as Diana. She is also known as Potnia Theron. Selene, the goddess of the moon, was superseded by Artemis too. She is the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, wilderness, childbirth, and the natural environment. Her symbols include the bow and arrow, deer, bear, boar, stag, pack of dogs. Artemis is the only goddess in the Twelve Olympians with a mother, Leto. Leto gave birth to Artemis on the island of Delos. Upon her birth, she saw her mother having a hard time giving birth to Apollo, so she assisted her during childbirth, hence also being called the goddess of childbirth.

Artemis, like her followers, is a chaste goddess, and she remained a virgin her entire life. She was a great feminist, and gravely punished men who tried to defile women. She is also known for protecting girls until marriage. Her brother is her male counterpart for protecting boys. She's also a "daddy's girl" to Zeus. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She's often depicted wearing a short knee-length chiton, equipped with bow and arrows. Even if Artemis was also a goddess of life and healing, she and her brother were also gods of sudden death and disease for their respective genders.

Invocation to lady Artemis:

O Thou Beautiful
Lady of the Moon,
Virgin Artemis,
Mysterious and Triune,
Who bearest a bow
And a quiver of splendor
With elegant arrows
Made of glittering silver,
Sister of Apollo
And daughter of Zeus,
Most Mysterious Woman,
Mystick and Abstruse,
Who art Selene above
Waxing in the sky,
And Hecate below
Waning with a sigh,
And Artemis on earth
Protecting child birth,
Thou Triple Goddess
Of the Ageless Moon,
Lady of the Nocturnal
And Mystick Swoon,
Virgin Artemis
Of Lunar Delight,
Admirable Queen
Of the Starry Night,
Lover of youth
And Guardian of Truth,
Holy Priestess
And Virgin Huntress,
Mighty Protectress,
Full Moon in Darkness,
Holy Virgin,
Holy Guardian,
Blessed Goddess
Of the Cypress Garden,
We invoke thy
Lunar Ecstasy,
And we invoke thy
Mystick Trance!
We invoke thy
Magick Sovereignty,
And we invoke thy
Secret Guidance!
Come, O come, Lady Artemis,
Our beloved Moon,
And fill us with your Mystick
And Wondrous Swoon!
We invoke thee to enrich
Our souls with thy Mystick Power,
Come, O come, in this,
Thine holy hour!

The Supreme Invocation To The Lord Of The Universe

The Supreme Invocation To The Lord Of The Universe Cover
Issued by the Thelemic Temple
and Order of the Golden Dawn
(Novus Ordo Aureae Aurora)

For daily use of the Magician

Adoration be unto Thee, Lord of my Life: for Thou hast permitted me to enter thus far into the Sanctuary of Thine Ineffable Mystery; and hast vouchsafed to manifest unto me some little fragment of the Glory of Thy Supreme Being. Hear me, Thou Vast and Mighty One; hear me, and grant that my Will be done! Grant that I may ever uphold and exercise Thine Holy Way of Liberty, as a god who is free to do his True Will amongst the legions of the living; and grant unto me the comprehension of aught that may bring me nearer unto Thee. Teach me, Lord Horus, more and more of Thy Mystery and Thy Mastery. Let each day and night and hour bring me nearer, near unto Thee. Let me aid Thee in Thy Great Work upon earth, so that I may one day become truly united unto Thee in all Thy Infinite Glory of Light, Life, Love and Liberty.

Come Thou forth unto me, O Thou Mighty and Vast One, that art the Lord of the Aeon, Thou Supreme and Terrible God who makest the gods and death to tremble before Thee, and whose Law is Do What Thou Wilt. O Thou Heart of my Soul: O Thou Self-Shining Flame: O Thou Glory of the Light of the Sun: Thee, Thee, I invoke! Come Thou forth unto me, my Lord; to me, who am Thy vain reflection in the mighty sea of matter. O hear me, Thou Lord of the Gods: hear me in the habitations of Eternity: and come Thou forth unto me to purify and consecrate to Thy Great Work my mind and will. Without Thee I am nothing. In Thee I am All-Self Existing in Thy Selfhood to Eternity!

Come Thou forth unto me, O Thou Most Hidden Light! O Thou Heart of my Soul, Thee, Thee, I invoke! Come Thou forth unto me, O Thou who art my very Selfhood, mine Essence, my Light; and do Thou guard me and guide me through the manifold paths of Life, that I may at length become one with Thy Supreme and Terrible Essence! O Lord of the Universe, grant Thou that upon me may shine forth the Light of my True Soul; and let me be guided by the help of mine Holy Angel unto the attainment of Thy Throne of Glory.

And for this day, teach me this one thing: how I may learn from Thee the Mysteries of Thy Sacred Magick of Thelema: that I may obtain the Knowledge and Power of my True Will, and thus attain to the Knowledge and Conversation of mine Holy Guardian Angel; and how best I may use that Knowledge and Power to assist my fellow men and women to accomplish Thy Great Work upon earth.

And finally, I implore Thee, to let there be a link of unity between us, that I may ever seek, and seeking, obtain Freedom and Knowledge in Thee who art my very Selfhood, that I may duly partake of Thy Supreme Essence of Power to attain the Grand Philosopher's Stone, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness. O Lord, may my Will which is Thine be done!

Rhyming Invocation To The Elements

Rhyming Invocation To The Elements Cover
Soft scented stillness that warns of the storm
Whisper of wisdom full living and warm
Breathe into us wonder at all we may know
Welcome, wise wind, from wherever you blow.

Bright spark of courage, blaze of desire
The passion for change is a wild, raging fire
Kindled by will, it burns in our veins
Welcome within us, our hearts are your flames

Power of water, power to feel
Rising within us, ancient and real
Soothed into softness or tossed to extremes
Welcome, wild waves from the depths of our dreams

Mother in waiting, child in the womb
Newly strung thread waits the night on the loom
Earth that we come from, Earth where we go
Welcome, as you welcomed us long ago.

I call you now, attend to me!

Safe from psychic curse or blast
I call you now, attend to me!
From cave and desert, sea and hill
By wand, cup, blade or pentacle
I call you now, attend to me!
This is my will
